Countdown Till Christmas (Advent Calendar)! 11/14/09

During this time of the year, the days appear move by so quickly; before you know it, the holiday season is upon us. What better way to celebrate the season than with this Countdown Till Christmas - Calendar. Angie Duerden, Scrap Therapist, created two types of Calendars for our students to choose from. One with traditional red & green hues and the other one with floresent pink & green. Twenty-five little pop-up windows that hide goodies, and holiday riddles behind each flap. Each calendar was adorned with ribbon or tulle to hang in a special place of honor. Crafters were delighted with their completed calendars and were all smiles as they proudly displayed their creations.

New Moon Class - Twilight! 11/14/09

Do you Twilight? Well we did! Letty Lucero (our Design Team Leader) created a beautifully crafted New Moon themed album. The album is 6" x 12" in size and has staggered layers to ever-so-slightly reveal the contents of the next page. Pictures and text blocks were provided to the class to totally decorate the album to ones own mysterious flair.

Altered Bra Contest for Breast Cancer Awareness

Let's give a big giant "shout-out" to our customers and staff who participated in this years Altered Bra Contest. Some participants were pretty shy and some of our participants weren't. What a creative lot we are. Our entries included seashells, feathers, flowers, scotch tape, blingage, and lets not forget, verbiage. (Save the Ta Ta's). Our big winner of this challenge is Sara Cook. Sara submitted a beautiful pink flower encrusted bra with rhinestones & ribbons. Sara had the most votes and is the proud winner of a $25.00 ScrapHappy gift certificate (Congrats to Sara!)

We, the staff, also had our own internal design contest; we want to play, too. However, no prizes for us, just bragging rights. Diane Corcoran was the staff winner with "Save the Ta Ta's!Participant Entries

Not-So-Me Paper Challenge! 09/09

Not-So-Me Paper Challenge – September 2009 (Challenge Corner)
The votes are in for the Not-So-Me paper Challenge, and we have three winners. Sara Cook had the most votes from our customers/staff and is the First Place Winner. Sara won a $10.00 gift certificate to our ScrapHappy store. A tie for Second Place…..Jeanette Aviles & Maria Aldanese came in with the next highest vote count. These two each won a gift card to Sweet Connections Yogurt Shop.

Highlights – The one common thread throughout this challenge was that everyone had a similar reaction to their paper. (EEEEEEWAH!) Their creative minds went to work to try and make sense of this totally un-matching and/or non-related paper. It was quite interesting to see how creative each participant was with resolving this paper challenge. Verbatim Comments – “This challenge pushed me to think outside the box.” “I like putting unrelated things together, so it will be interesting to see what I come up with.” “It challenged my creativity to find the beauty in all things.” Key Learning – Stretch your scrapbooking skills to go beyond your own individual comfort zone. Don’t be hesitant to try a new technique. Select a piece of paper or an embellishment that is not necessarily your style and see if you can make it work. It usually does. Thanks to all participants who submitted their beautifully crafted layouts.. Keep up the good work! Stay tuned for the next challenge.

Once Upon a Time & Just Be Album-Debby Shuh! 9/13/09

What an honor to be in the prescense of Debby Shuh. She taught two classes this year. The "Once Upon a Time" and the "Just Be" Albums. She was very organized with her projects and the ladies had a great time with Debby. We had a few of her followers take both classes as well.
Once Upon a Time Album - Every great story begins with these words and so does the story you have to tell! The possibilities are endless...you might want to tell your story...what and who has made you who you are today; you might want to tell your mom's or grandmother's story or the story of becoming a mother; you might want to tell the story of a treasured friendship or even of your garden! This album can be made with a particular story in mind or you can create the album and decide the story you’ll tell later.

TuTu Canvas & Buc-a-Roo! 6/30/09

These beautifully crafted 8x10 canvas creations are really spectacular. The pink & black Tu Tu inspired canvas is really adorable. Any ballerina or princess would be proud to display their picture on this canvas adorned with pink & black bows, lots & lots of tule. We liked it so much we named it 'TuTu Cute'.

For those who want to sport a western theme, check out our Buckaroo canvas. This canvas has a great fringed faux buckskin vest, a red/black/white neckerchief, a belt with a belt buckle, and a sheriff's badge to top it off. We placed a photo of our choice on this canvas and created a wonderful piece of art and a definite conversation piece.

Hot August Nights! 8/24 - 8/29

Scrap 'n Tea! 8/16/09

We just love a tea party….this was ScrapHappy’s very first Scrap-n-Tea and it was a huge success….even though the weather was a bit warm outside and in, we all enjoyed our delicious tea and goodies. After our tea, we cleaned up our tables and got out our scrapbooking items ready to make the cutest Teapot Scrapbook ever. Everyone had a great time and went home with a finished product. We certainly will be having another one here at ScrapHappy. Thanks to Letty Lucero for providing us with the tea and goodies and the cute idea for our scrapbook. Thanks also for those who helped out in any way to set up.

Sizzlin' Summer Sidewalk Sale 7/25 - 7/26

Kaboom Sale! 7/2 - 7/3

Mommy & Me Paper Bag Album! 6/29/09

Fourth of July Theme – This was cute!! So much fun! The kids took the same materials and made such different ideas for their projects. Moms and grandmas wanted to take over but were halted –this one was for the kids!

Swap Meet! 6/28/09

Our first ScrapHappy ‘Swap Meet’ flea market was very successful!. Ten vendor tables were set-up in our cropping area, bulging with various and sundry scrapbooking/crafting type items to sell to customers and fellow swappers…whoever walked through the door! There was a lot of selling, buying, negotiating, dickering and haggling to get the best price for the item that was up for grabs. As I canvassed the swap area, I could see smiles and hear the laughter…folks having lots of fun!

The more seasoned swap-goers knew the drill. Holding out until the very end to get that bargain. It was kind of exciting to watch. The banter going back and forth was… “Let’s make a deal! Make me an offer! Well, how much do YOU want to pay for it! Oh…just take it!”

But best of all, at the end of the day, whatever didn’t go back home was boxed up and donated to the Summer Boost Literacy Program sponsored by Sweet Connections. Everybody wins…ScrapHappy, vendors, customers & our community.
That’s why we’re so ScrapHappy! We’ll do this again.
Miss Janney – Scrap Therapist

Cards for the Troops! 6/27/09

Awesome turnout! Everyone went above and beyond and did more than the requested amount of cards. This was so fun! Several people requested to do this again in the future…we will for sure!

ScrapHappy Camp! 6/28 – 7/3

The girls started off a little quiet and reserved at the beginning of the week and made fast friends by the end of the week and had a twenty page 12x12 album completed. The week was such a success and so much fun that we will DEFINITELY do this again!!!

NSD Weekend / Marah Johnson! May 3rd-5th

The National Scrapbook day Weekend was an absolute blast!!

Day One started out with our Pajama Party. Our participants were comfy and cozy walking around in their robes and slippers as they completed their scrapping projects. All-you-can-eat Pizza, salad, snacks and an Ice Cream Social Sponsored by Sweet Connection ended the day.

Day Two began with a mouth-watering breakfast of organic waffles, sausages, fresh fruit and more. Two classes were taught by the incredibly talented Marah Johnson.

Twelve Things to Love!
A beautifully decorated box that houses twelve individual mini chipboard booklets to fill all of your favorite things. All components of the box/mini books were color coordinated with paper that shows the ‘Marah Johnson’ style.

That’s Amore!
Rock out on this one! An intricately detailed sculptured mini board book all decked out with Marah’s rock’n paper. This album was topped off with an antique heart, wrapped in copper and adorned with a golden crown. Really, really cute!

We’re still on Day Two and our participants were still scrappin’, eating and just having fun.

We went on-and-on until the strike of midnight!

Day Three – More give-aways, games, make-n-takes, time to crop and tasty food.
In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, we busted open a piñata full of coupons, store specials & candy. What a wild bunch.

Mayoral Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony! April 30th

We are very proud that ScrapHappy is part of the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce. On April 30, 2009, San Bruno Mayor, Larry Franzella, performed an official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to formally signify the Grand Re-Opening of ScrapHappy and welcome us into the community. As our customers entered our store, they were met with a very festive atmosphere. We had store specials, door prizes, raffles, make-and-takes, and outstanding food & beverages from some of the best local restaurants:

Kobe Sake - A Giant Sushi Platter.
Ming’s - Potstickers.
Thai Nakorn - Chicken Satay.
Kuya’s – Lumpias
West Coast Café - Bruschetta
Fruit Platters, Desserts & More!

GRAND Opening!!! April 3rd

You had to hold onto your socks for this one!! More than an hour prior to the doors opening, happy scrappers started lining up around the block to take a peek at our newly decked out store. Once the doors opened, we had a line at the register at least 30 people deep for a solid three-and-a-half hours!!! In addition to the sale, we had goodie bag gifts for the first 50 customers, freebies, hourly raffles and just all-around fun. When customers with the winning ticket were announced, they did the “Happy Dance!” (Visualize waiving your hands in the air and dancing like you just don’t care – woo-woo!) If you missed this one, I’m sorry.

We've Moved!!!

We were getting ready!

Sarah Battaglia – owner of the new ScrapHappy store was painstakingly coordinating (and inputting, too!) the inventory of each and every product in the entire store into a brand new Point of Sale system. Inventory had to be completed prior to the move date. In addition, she was coordinating a crew of staff members, friends and volunteers, standing by to move the entire store just a mere three doors down. You might think that the short distance would make this a not-so-difficult task. (i.e., no moving vans, and no mileage.) Sounds simple? Not! “The Avenue” was littered with Disney stickers & embellies as the afternoon San Bruno winds blew in!

Meanwhile, at the new place, Chris Hart (General Contractor and Sarah’s husband) was orchestrating all the hammering, painting, electrical, lighting, flooring and all other remodeling minutia. Both teams of folks worked until the wee hours in the morning to meet the move-in grand re-opening deadline. Whew! Even amongst all the turmoil & turbulence, owners, staff members, & volunteers, got it done!

Once upon a time…it started as a dream.
